About the Network
NDN is a nationwide referral system for discounted desexing made available to those in financial need. Our goal is to end pet overpopulation by making this service more affordable to those who might not otherwise be in a position to desex their pets.

People who need assistance desexing their pets call our 1300 number or sign up through our website. They will be referred to a veterinarian or program in their area that offers discounted desexing services. Callers are (e)mailed a referral certificate to take to their veterinarian and services are to be paid for by the client at the time of their visit.

How we can all work together to make the Network a success

  • Ask your locals vet clinic to join
Every vet clinic in Australia has been sent an invitation to join the program. You can help by contacting your local veterinary clinics and urging them to join. If your local vets are part of the Network, you can then refer people to NDN who are in need of low-cost desexing, thereby reducing the number of unwanted pets born in your region.
  • Join the Network
If your organisation already offers low-cost desexing, please let us know and we will refer our clients directly to you. If you are thinking of starting a low-cost desexing program in your area, please contact us and perhaps we can help you get started.
  • Spread the word about the NDN
We need your help in reaching the animals in need of low-cost desexing. If there isn't already a low-cost desexing program in your area, please help promote the NDN. A great idea is to copy our press release and send it to your local newspaper. We also have printable flyers to help spread the word about the overpopulation problem. Again, if more people are aware of and use NDN, fewer unwanted litters will be born.

  • Be part of this year’s National Desexing Month in August!
NDN is organising its third National Desexing Month this year and your organisation should be part of it. We have developed a promotional kit for everyone who wants to join. Last year due to their great effort, the Illawarra branch of the AWL of  NSW was chosen as the recipients of the $2000 prize money to be used for desexing. This year it could be your organisation!
  • Apply for our grant
NDN is offering individual shelters and rescue groups a $3500 grant to desex 100 mother cats of litters surrendered to your shelter or group for free. Please fax us the attached form to receive an application form ASAP as there are a limited number of grants available.
  • Attend the National Summit to End Pet Overpopulation
This summit aims to bring together all stakeholders to share effective strategies and to set targets to reduce the numbers of companion animals in Australia. Please make an allowance in your budget to attend this worthwhile event held on the Gold Coast June 15-17, 2006.
